Tara’s spring in Brittany

After a 3-month overhaul in Lorient, a rejuvenated Tara is finally back in the water and ready for new adventures. Until April 24, the “whale” will remain at dock for the final work to be done before making several stopovers on the subject of “Ocean and Climate”.

April 25, 26 and 27 : TARA WILL BE IN PENCADENIC AND PENVINS (Morbihan)

Come visit Tara! To see the schooner up close, come aboard at Pencadenic, Saturday, April 25 (2 to 6 pm), or Sunday April 26 (11am  to 6pm); or at Penerf on Monday April 27 (4 to 6pm).
Book signings by Vincent Hilaire: Author of “Voyage autour du pôle à bord Tara“, Vincent Hilaire will autograph his book on Saturday April 25 (6 to 11 pm) in tents located at the Cale de Pencadenic, and at the Maison de l’Huitre in Penerf on April 26 (6 to 7 pm) and Monday 27 (2 to 7 pm).
Discussions about life on board during an expedition: An opportunity for the Tara crew to share their experiences! To attend, come to the Maison de l’Huitre in Penerf on April 26 (6:30 to 7 pm), or Monday April 27 (7:30 to 8 pm).
And don’t miss Sunday, April 26 at Penerf: From 12 am to 8 pm, on the occasion of Tara’s stopover, a celebration of the sea will be organized in the port (presence of 3 tall ships, wooden games, sea shanties, grill, bar).

Following these 3 very full days, Tara will return to Lorient, her home port, on April 28 and will stay until May 7.


From May 8 to 10 : Tara will be at Trinité-sur-Mer for the TOUR DE BELLE-ILE race.  This year Tara is sponsored by TOUR DE BELLE-ILE. The 8th edition will take place from May 8 to 10, 2015 in La Trinité-sur-Mer where about 500 boats will be on the starting line in the Bay of Quiberon.
On Friday May 8, the schooner will be in the port of La Trinité-sur-Mer, open to the public between 2 and 6 pm.  (Sign up here to visit the bridge with a crew member.) Tara will also serve as the events committee boat on May 9. Romain Troublé, secretary general of Tara, will give the official send-off of the race from aboard the schooner.
Tara will present the exhibition “Our Planet Ocean” in the town of TOUR DE BELLE-ILE – the opportunity to discover the ocean,  “cradle of life”  covering three quarters of our blue planet. The Ocean is also vital to our health and to the health of our ecosystems:  50% of the oxygen we breathe comes from the Ocean. It is also essential for the balance of climate and indispensable for the world economy.


From June 9 to 16, 2015 Tara will be in Lorient for the 12th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race, the biggest race around the world with crew and stopovers. And don’t miss the exhibition “Autour du Pôle Nord avec TARA” by Vincent Hilaire, from April 20 to June 20 (Pêcheurs d’images gallery-Lorient).


On June 23, Tara will stopover in Roscoff (Finistère), home to one of Tara Oceans’ partner laboratories – the Biological Station of Roscoff (CNRS / UMPC). The prestigious Jacques Monod conference will take place for the occasion, chaired by Catherine Boyen on marine biology.

TARA TO ROUEN (June 24 to 27 )

On June 24 the schooner will sail to Rouen for a 3-day stopover as part of the annual conference of the Association of Regions of France held at the Rouen Opera.
Events of the stopover:
Tara will arrive Wednesday, June 24 at the Jean Ango ponton.
The next day, Thursday June 25, elected officials present at the congress will come aboard the boat for a visit with Captain Samuel Audrain –This will be the opportunity to review Tara’s commitment and talk about the science with Romain Troublé,  secretary general of Tara.
June 26 and 27, Tara will welcome aboard the general public and school children.
