2017, March 21

The UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) will co-organise the International Symposium on Coral Reefs in Crisis, hosted by the Tara Expeditions Foundation with support from agnès b. Japan Inc. and the Global Environmental Outreach Centre. Backed by a number of international enterprises and organisations, Tara Expeditions have travelled from the North Pole to the Antarctic Ocean over the past 12 years to study the impact of climate change on the seas. Since 2016, the organisation has focused on coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean.

This symposium will be held during Tara’s first visit to Japan, and it aims to introduce their activities as well as the current conditions of coral reefs around the world. The event also invites experts to discuss ways to meet Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals: to “conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.”
Simultaneous interpretation in Japanese and English will be available.
For more information and to register, see the event announcement on the UNU-IAS website.
