The Foundation “La Main à la pâte” (“Hands On”) is a laboratory of innovative ideas and practices seeking to improve the quality of science education in primary and secondary schools. It was established in 2011 by the French Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris and Lyon, based on the movement initiated in 1995 by Nobel Prize winner Georges Charpak. The Foundation offers teachers in France and other countries a wide variety of aids to help their students discover science as the dynamic and exciting field it truly is. “Hands On” pedagogy encourages an attitude of cooperation and equal opportunity, with the goal of helping students understand the major challenges confronting the 21st century.
