Oceans by Disney

The 2 animated films Finding Dory (Disney-Pixar) and Moana (Disney), and the soon-to-be-released documentary Blue (Disneynature) recount engaging stories about the Ocean for people of all ages.  In 2016, the Walt Disney Company France set up “Oceans by Disney”, an educational initiative aimed at taking an active role in the preservation of the marine environment, in partnership with the Tara Expeditions Foundation. In line with Disney’s other environmental initiatives —  Worldwide Conservation Fund, and Disneynature — “Oceans by Disney” marks a new stage in the company’s commitment to protecting the environment.

On June 8, 2016, celebrating the release of Finding Dory on World Oceans Day, the children of Marseille, La Ciotat and Argelès-sur-Mer took part in a giant beach cleanup organized by Disney and the Tara Foundation. On the agenda: identification and collection of trash found on beaches; raising awareness about actions necessary for preserving the Ocean; games and quizzes about marine environments.

In December 2016, when the animated film Moana was released, Disney, IOC-UNESCO and the Tara Foundation joined forces to organize a “UNESCO Campus” for young people concerned about the  major challenges facing the Ocean today. The 300 students participating in this Campus were able to have teleconferences with Tara’s crew and talk with anthropologists specialized in the way-of-life of Pacific islanders.

Throughout the summer of 2017, at the 92 beach clubs organized by Le Journal de Mickey de France,  children participated in 2 activities designed by Disney and Tara: in a playful treasure hunt children learned about marine ecosystems by piecing together a puzzle; in a game of mime they discovered marine animals and their habitats.

The year 2018 will be marked by the release of Blue

This new Disneynature documentary blends spectacular cinematography with Disney’s signature storytelling: Echo is a young dolphin who can’t quite decide if it’s time to grow up and take on new responsibilities, or give in to his silly side and just have fun. The coral reef where Echo and his family live depends upon all its inhabitants to remain healthy. Through the eyes of a carefree dolphin, we discover the amazing realm of the ocean.

A film directed by Keith Scholey (FELINS, GRIZZLY), co-directed by Alastair Fothergill (A DAY ON EARTH, FELINS, GRIZZLY, CHIMPANZES, IN THE KINGDOM OF THE APES), a story told by the Cécile de France.

Tara and Disneynature have been partners for 2 years now, working together to raise awareness about the Ocean. We will continue our collaboration by offering a wide range of activities in conjunction with the film Blue.

Besides, the official Blue trailer was recently presented at the Salon de la Plongée in Paris (January 2018) during 3 conferences: The Ocean in the 21st century,  Mission Tara Pacific,  and the Odyssey of Coral.
